Hooray for Hollywood!

Hellooooo babies,

This morning I watched NC State almost perform a miracle in the ACC tournament final against UNC. Unfortunately, those dirty Tarheels were too much for the Wolfpack. UNC won by nine.

Immediately after the game, I met Donna downstairs to do a little sightseeing.

First we drove over to the KidRobot store on Melrose to buy a souvenir or three for Daddy. Then we did Hollywood. We parked under the Kodak Theater where the Academy Awards are held and walked up to the Grauman's Chinese Theater, built in 1927, and site of the stars' handprints and footprints for 80 years.

Here's a genuine California license plate. I meant to take a picture of one sooner, but forgot.

This is Godzilla's star on the Walk of Fame.

This is the Chinese Theater. It's a lot smaller than I expected. Hollywood on the whole is a lot smaller than I expected. Los Angeles, on the other hand, is a lot bigger than I expected.

A celebrity sighting!

These are the footprints of R2-D2, C3PO and Darth Vader from Star Wars. It might sort of look like they're embossed rather than engraved but that's a trick of the light. The sun was very bright and the shadows are really dark and really defined, creating the optical illusion.

Then we drove up into the Hollywood hills to get a good shot of the Hollywood sign.

This guy is starting to look familiar.

Donna found out where they shot the entrance to the Batcave on the old Adam West Batman TV show. We decided to drive up to the park where it is. We hiked up the hill and discovered it hidden in the mountain. Funnily enough, there was a small film crew already there shooting something. We had to wait until they were between takes to get our pictures by the tunnel entrance. The place is called Bronson Canyon and a quick Google search makes it look like a whole lot of films were shot there, including Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Searchers.

Nananananananananana...

Dad-deee! Dad-deee!

We climbed back down the mountain and drove to an old Hollywood cemetary called Hollywood Forever.

And the Oscar for Most Rocking in the Field of Tombstones goes to...

Johnny Ramone.

It was a silly, fun, touristy day.

I love you guys. Have fun tomorrow. I will call you.

Sweet dreams,
Daddy
